Learn how to make your own pottery on the pottery turning wheel!
This course has 8 weekly classes of 3 hours each
plus
4 independent practice sessions of 3 hours
A total of 36 hours. We really recommend that you do the practice hours as it speeds up the learning process.
This course is designed for both total beginners and less experienced or secure hobbyists. It concentrates on teaching the basics until you feel secure and confident to work on larger pieces.
If you are a total beginner the focus is on learning to centre, then pulling up walls and to make cylinders. Cylinders are the most basic and useful shape to make cups, vases, pencil and toothbrush holders or even flat bottomed bowls.
Ulyana will demonstrate and then work one on one with you to make sure you are comfortable.
If you have already done an introductory level course or 2, you will be introduced to more advanced techniques such as learning how to make curved bottomed bowls, throw larger forms, add a handle and how to trim and modify your forms.
Use the 4 x 3 hour independent practice sessions included to improve and build muscle memory by repeating what you learned in class.
If you need to miss up to 2 classes please discuss how best to catch up with your teacher.
We have catch up lessons scheduled on Saturday afternoons but we can also add you to another evening course if there is space. You can find these online under the tab “PLAN” look for the listing for ‘catch up class” and sign up so that we know to expect you.
You can also book your practice sessions on the studio calendar or come in On Saturday or Sunday afternoons without booking.
